This handmade cross-stitch embroidery tapestry monumentalizes a digital document passed through several generations of my family. The document, originally published by the Hong Kong government, speaks about the prevention of cancer from a perspective at odds with western medicine. Each digital pixel is rendered as a cross stitch to create an almost exact 4x enlargement of the original.
Heirloom Facsimile, cross stitch on cotton, 3 panels, each 48" x 35", 2010-13. Install and full panel photos: Jay Shuster. Detail photos: Toni Hafkenscheid.
